History

Occupation : MRCS Surgeon

Robert Muriel was a Surgeon (MRCS) living in Ely, Cambridge. He owned properties in Market Place, Ely and lived in High St, Ely.Robert’s will was proved in 1828 he left sizeable sums to each of his children, his wife, brother John and his son in law Charles Bidwell. The premises at Market Place was left to his eldest daughter Mary Muriel, other properties including the premises/practice in High street were left to his son John Muriel. Land in Ely in the tenure of Hugh Robert Evans, Solicitor was to be retained in the tenure of Evans but subject to a substantial payment to Robert’s daughter Mary. Robert left his medical stock as follows : -

  • “unto my Sons John Muriel Charles Muriel and Brooke Muriel all my medical Books and Surgical Instruments and prints relating to the profession of a Surgeon equally divided between them,unto my

  • son John Muriel all my Stock of Drugs Phials fixtures & utensils in my Shop and Surgery”
